Parish News & August 2025 Updates (Updated August 23rd)

Week 1

August 3rd

This week’s Gospel reminds us that life is not measured by what we own, but by how we live.

In the Parable of the Rich Fool, Jesus challenges us to shift our focus from earthly treasures to what truly matters — a heart rich in faith, love, and generosity.

As we begin this new week, may we take time to reflect:

Are we building up treasures for ourselves, or growing in what matters to God?

Let’s choose to live with purpose, give with joy, and center our hearts on the things that last.

Haitian Mission Appeal – This Weekend

Let’s welcome Fr. Edwine Saint Louis as our special guest for the annual Haitian Mission Appeal.

Fr. Edwine will speak at all Masses, sharing the needs of the Haitian community and how we can support the ongoing mission work.

There will be a second collection to support this important cause.

Please be generous with your prayers and offerings as we stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Haiti.

Please Note:

There is an error in the offertory envelopes for this weekend August 2–3.

The envelopes incorrectly list the second collection as being for the Church in Africa.

Instead, that weekend’s second collection will support the Haitian Mission Appeal, with all offerings going directly to the mission in Haiti.

The collection for the Church in Africa will be held next weekend, August 9–10.

Finance Council Meeting

The next Finance Council meeting will take place on Monday, August 4th at 5:00 PM in the parish office.

Feast of the Transfiguration

This Wednesday, the Church celebrates the Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord, when Jesus took Peter, James, and John up the mountain and was transfigured before them—His face shining like the sun, His clothes dazzling white (Matthew 17:1–9).

In that moment, the disciples were given a glimpse of Christ’s divine glory—a revelation meant to strengthen their faith before the trials to come.

The Transfiguration reminds us that even in the midst of darkness, suffering, or confusion, God is present and radiant.

Jesus didn’t take the disciples out of the world, but gave them a vision to carry with them through it.

We, too, are called to open our eyes to His presence—on the mountaintop moments and in the valleys.

As we reflect on this feast, we’re invited to be transformed by grace, to listen more deeply to the voice of the Father—

“This is my beloved Son… listen to Him”

and to carry the light of Christ into our daily lives.

Where might God be inviting you to see His glory more clearly this week?

Week 2

August 10th

Weekly Encouragement

In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus reminds us of something both comforting and challenging: “I am the bread of life.” He offers Himself not just as a teacher or healer—but as true nourishment for our souls. Sometimes we seek fulfillment in things that don’t last. This week, let’s reflect on the ways we feed our hearts, our minds, and our spirits. Are we turning to what truly satisfies? Are we making room for the Bread of Life in our daily routines?

May this week be one of deeper trust, greater spiritual hunger, and fuller hearts—centered in Christ.

Week 3

August 18th

Weekly Encouragement

In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus says, “I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing!”

These words remind us that following Christ is not about comfort, but about transformation. His fire purifies, refines, and ignites hearts with zeal for the Kingdom of God.

The path of discipleship sometimes brings division—even among those closest to us—because living the Gospel challenges the values of the world. But this same fire also lights the way, giving us courage to stand firm in truth and love.

This week, let us ask the Lord to set our hearts ablaze with His Spirit, so we can be faithful witnesses wherever He sends us.

Week 4

August 23rd

Weekly Encouragement

In this Gospel, Jesus reminds us that entering the Kingdom of God is not about appearances, titles, or saying the right words—it is about a life of faith lived with humility, love, and perseverance.

When someone asks Him, “Lord, will only a few people be saved?” Jesus turns the focus back on personal responsibility: “Strive to enter through the narrow gate.”

The narrow gate is not easy. It requires prayer, discipline, forgiveness, and a willingness to follow Christ even when it is uncomfortable. Simply saying “I know Jesus” or “I was near Him” is not enough.

What matters is whether our lives reflect His teaching in our choices, actions, and relationships.

Jesus also challenges us with a reversal: some who are last will be first, and some who are first will be last. This is a reminder not to take our faith for granted, but to live it daily, trusting that God’s mercy welcomes all who sincerely seek Him.
